All this for a pool deck? A Custom Home Design Story…..

Here you will see an interesting story about the use of limestone for a custom designed residence that is nestled at the base of a mountain where rivers meet in New Bern, North Carolina. This waterfront beauty custom designed by Weber Design Group, Inc. will feature the unique masonry work of Tri-Stone, Inc.
The picture below shows several rough limestone slabs. These special slabs were once four very large limestone blocks measuring 9 feet in length by 5 feet in height and width. Each individual limestone block has been given a weight and serial number from it’s hailing quarry so that no matter what is made from the stone, this special identification code will be carved into it.
Collectively, these slabs will be used to create step treads and swimming pool coping. Pool coping is simply the frame for the swimming pool, much like a frame around a picture or painting. The picture below shows the treads being cut.
The picture below shows the marking of the cut treads which will be used to create a bull nose (rounded convex trim) on the edges of the limestone.
A fascinating fact about this particular type of limestone is that two – 9 feet cuts, will create almost a solid pound of limestone dust. This reclaimed dust can then be mixed with a surfactant and used to make any repairs that may be necessary throughout the installation process as shown below.
Each project Tri-Stone, Inc. works on is unique and individual to the job but the finished product should eventually resemble the above as seen with the bull nose and coping features.
